Biology
physiognomy
Smeargle is a brown and white biped Pokémon with more tongue out of his mouth and that has a long tail with a finish that looks like a paint brush. This exudes brush painting and the paint color is apparently different for each Smeargle. Although the game sprite depicting the green, brown and red, the anime also shows the yellow and blue. It was implied that every Smeargle possessed a different colored tail. Smeargle has a footprint on the back that has the same color of the tip of the tail. Smeargle head has a circular structure with a point that looks like a hat, ears and neck are brown and the latter resembles a collar. The rings that surround the Smeargle eyes are brown as are the eyelids. Smeargle has apparently skillful fingers.

Curiosity
Although it is not able to learn any move by MT or Insegnamosse through Sketch it is able to learn all the existing moves, with some exceptions.
Probably the possibility of Smeargle to learn almost all existing moves is balanced with its very low statistics.
Smeargle is the only Pokémon that can learn the same move more than twice. In fact Smeargle if, when you level up, does not possess it, can learn Sketch 10 times, one every 10 levels (1,11,21,31 ... Starting with up to 91)
In the second generation sprite, the colors of the Smeargle tail in normal form and the color were reversed.
Origin
Based on a painter with appearance of a beagle.
Origin of name
Smeargle The name comes from the union of the English words smear (stain) and beagle.
